After some discussion and research into ‘Best Practice’ the Committee have made a decision that all Trainers who use the local facilities will be asked for the following documentation:
- Instructor Insurance cover confirmation
- Child Protection Certificate
- Police Check
- First Aid Certificate
In the past only the insurance documentation has been requested but to bring ourselves in line with the UK, the above will be introduced immediately but with time allowed for the extra documents to be obtained. Many Trainers already have several of the above in place already.
The Child Protection Certificate may be obtained via the Internet through the NSPCC or by attending an organised briefing which BS Guernsey will look to organise later this year. This basically informs people what is accepted behaviour around Children and vulnerable adults together with pointers on what to look out for which would alert people to possible problems.
The Police Check will be processed through the Registrations Secretary.
The First Aid Course can be organised through St John’s Ambulance who provide a range of courses, the most relevant would be the Equine Course or First Aid at Work both of which I believe last for 3 years. An Equine course is being organised for later this year.
Trainers who visit from the UK may be on one of several Registers which already monitor their documentation e.g. BS UK and all of the above documents are necessary to operate in the UK.
It is the duty of the Registrations Secretary to ensure that all visiting Trainers have appropriate documentation and this will be done by liaising with the Trainers, UK Registers, and Members.
As a Member when using the facilities you have an obligation to ensure that BS Guernsey knows when you book the facilities that you will be using a Trainer so that their documentation may be verified.
